The power of play therapy

Play is a child’s natural way of communicating. Through play therapy, we support children to explore their emotions, build confidence and make sense of difficult feelings in a safe and nurturing environment.

As children express themselves through play, they begin to develop emotional understanding, resilience and a stronger sense of self.

The language of play

At As We Grow Therapy, we provide a safe and nurturing space where your child can use creative play to express themselves, their emotions, helping them feel truly understood and supported.

This gentle approach children develop emotional awareness, confidence, and the ability to manage their feelings. Through our sessions, children are often able to express thoughts and feelings that can be difficult to put into words.

Understanding play therapy: reassurance for parents

We know that seeking support for your child is a big step. Here we explain how our gentle, creative approach helps children feel understood and supported.

What if my child finds it hard to talk about their feelings?

That is perfectly natural. In play therapy, toys are like children’s words and play is their language. Instead of needing to find the right words, children can use creative materials to express emotions in a way that feels safe and natural to them.

What can I expect from a typical session?

Sessions take place in a safe, welcoming space with a range of creative materials including, sand, games, mini figures, and art. Children lead the play, choosing what feels right for them in the moment. Children are given the freedom to lead their own play, while being supported.

How does play therapy support emotional wellbeing?

By providing a regular space where a child’s inner world is validated, play therapy helps reduce emotional distress. It supports children facing wide-ranging challenges including anxiety, behaviour, trauma, and regulation, helping them build the confidence and resilience they need for healthy development.

Every child’s journey is unique, and play therapy is always led at a pace that feels right for them. If you’re wondering whether this approach may be helpful, we would be happy to have a gentle, no-pressure conversation.
